They may think they are essential. But they aren't. Reuters or someone else generally has the story too. Having said that, bulk copying of entire articles, with one sentence of your own thoughts at the end probably isn't Fair Use. But if you do short quotes (or even better, paraphrase), always link back and attribute, add your own thoughts, then a claim of Fair Use gets easier to make.
