2009 conferences: Social media, tech, marketing

I published this a week ago but am republishing it now because it’s quite timely on Jan. 1 and because I added several additional events to the calendar.

For the past two years I put together a calendar of some of the best social media, technology, media and marketing conferences for the upcoming year. Here’s the list for 2009. Apologies, I had to leave out events outside the U.S. or the list would triple in size, and I left out newspaper conferences. This also doesn’t include the many worthy BarCamps, PodCamps and Social Media Club gatherings around the country.

If you know of other must-attend events, please add them by posting in the comments at the bottom.

I originally planned to list Northern Voice (even tho it’s in Canada) but thought it might have required me to include all the other gatherings for Drupal, Joomla, etc. etc. But glad you cited it here! Great gathering.

It is here in Vancouver and is always an enjoyable experience.

Great list. Please don’t forget Northern Voice, our social media conference now in its fifth year in Vancouver, BC. It has a personal and cultural, not a corporate, bent, but probably merits inclusion:

We put on an annual Social Commerce Summit in Austin, TX — this year April 27–29. Last year featured Kelly Mooney, Ze Frank, Josh Bernoff, Andy Sernovitz, and several brand execs.

It’s not an open event and is limited to brands (manufacturers, retailers, financial, etc.) but last year our attendees (from Walmart, P&G, Dell, BestBuy, etc.) said it was the best conference they attended! So if you’re a marketing professional from a Brand, drop us a note.

UGCX
February 9–10, 2009
San Jose Convention Center
San Jose, CA

User-generated content is a rapidly developing revolution in media. “Average Joe” internet users now wield power over online content, and new business models are emerging in response to this shift. UGCX is the first conference and expo organized to bring together content-trendsetters and business leaders in various fields to examine how these worlds collide and what the future holds. This new mediabistro.com event will unlock the knowledge businesses and non-profits need to respond to this shift.

UGCX is part trade show, and part educational conference program. Conference program sessions will be loaded with successful case studies and business models in four tracks: social content, photography, video & gaming, and music.

Hey JD,
Thanks for including Web 2.0 Expo on your list, we really appreciate it!

Did you know that we are also producing a tutorial dedicated to Media 2.0 at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference, June 22–25 in Boston?

I don’t know if you’re planning on updating the list, but if you are, I think E2 would be a great addition.

Thanks again.
