Adbrite isnt the best service to use, there are tons of them and most blog owners I know use adsense. It makes you more money...

We used adbrite for 6 months on Ourmedia but dropped it in favor of adsense.

I'd agree that bloggers shouldn't plan to get rich, at least not by blogging.
I agree with the NYT article.
Your blog is ultimately a vehicle to add something to the world while selling yourself in the process.
